Diatomaceous Earth (DE)/ Diatomite / Kieselguhr is a silica mineral that is composed of the fossilized skeletal remains of microscopic single celled aquatic plants called diatoms.Their skeletons are made of a natural substance called silica. Over a long period of time, diatoms accumulated in the sediment of rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans.
Diatomite has many important industrial applications due to its unique properties, i.e. micronized porous structure, light weight, and chemical inertness. These applications include :
- Filter aid
- Agriculture
- Functional filler
- Insulation
- Catalysis support
- Carrier application
- Anti-caking agent
